Meet Your Trainer

Hi, I’m Eren. I have loved dogs for as long as I can remember, starting with them in 4-H, and moving up into junior handling in AKC. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college, the first time I had ever been without dogs, that I realized I wanted to dedicate my life to them.

Stray Cogs is both a new adventure for me, and years of preparation finally put into action.

Training Philosophy

Every dog is an individual. Just like humans, no two dogs are exactly the same, and that includes how they learn. There is no “one-size fits all” method, and that keeps my approach to training very simple.

Train the dog in front of you.

Using this approach in combination with the LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) protocol, I build training plans that directly address the needs and abilities of the dog I am working with.

Credentials and Experience

I am an AKC Approved Evaluator for CGC and Star Puppy. I am currently working towards my Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCC) certification through NCSU.

I have worked with others’ animals since I was a young kid. I began handling for others in AKC, as well as dog walking and pet sitting for neighbors and friends. I spent two years working at an emergency and specialty veterinary hospital in the Denver metro area. It was working there that introduced me to veterinary rehab and sparked my interest in pursuing canine fitness and rehab.

The Dog for Me

It isn’t an exaggeration to say that my dogs are my world. Everything I do, I do for them.

When I was about 7 or 8, I bought a book at my school’s bookfair that had a dog on the front. It was called Hachiko Waits, written by Lesléa Newman. It’s a story, one that many people know, about a loyal Akita dog named Hachiko. When I read that story, I knew, then, that they were the dog for me.

It would be more than a decade before I brought home my first Akitainu, and I haven’t looked back. In my pack, you can find two Japanese Akitainu, a brindle male named Dazai and a red female named Kazuha. With my guardians, I also have two hounds, a male Kishuken named Toshi, and my old girl Harley Quinn, a treeing walker hound.

These dogs are my life, my world, and my story. They are how I got here, and they are how I am moving forward.
